Knapps

A large neo-Tudor gabled house with splendid views to the south over Knapps Loch. Designed by T. Andrew Millar (1880-1922), whose practice was largely confined to such residential commissions, East Rowantreehill, as the house was originally known, was built 1913-14. Constructed in snecked ochre sandstone, its façade gables, hood-moulded casements and tall chimney stacks seem more attuned to the bosky intimacy of the Cotswolds than the more open Scottish landscape they confront. Extensive landscaped gardens.
